Joi Porter: 2023

Joi Porter is a 2023 graduate of Maumelle High School with a 3.7 GPA.  Music has been a  major part of her life for as long as she can remember. She has been taking guitar lessons since 2017 with special mentoring from professional musicians. While at Maumelle High, Joi was a member of the jazz band where she achieved 1st Chair and 2nd Band at Arkansas All-State 2023. In 2022, Joi received the distinguished Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for outstanding achievement in the field of jazz as demonstrated through superior musicianship, character and individual creativity.

Joi is described by her teachers as “an extremely talented, yet humble, musician and inspirational leader. She celebrates the accomplishments of others by offering to support them through any adversities. She has a strong moral compass that will take her very far in life.”

Joi volunteers her time on and off the stage, in and out of school, in her church and community.  She has shown her determination and commitment to excellence through participation in several activities.  “Joi’s dream to become a music director, a touring musician, or a college jazz band director is within her reach and I believe she can do anything she sets her mind to” says teacher Felicia Acord.

Joi will be attending Berklee College of Music majoring in Musical Production and Engineering, Fall 2023.
