George Cooper
Since participating in the Minors in Music program, George Cooper completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, with a Minor in Mathematics at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. He then enrolled in the Fisk University/Vanderbilt University Bridge Program in Nashville, TN, where he receive the Master of Science degree in Physics. George then matriculated in the Vanderbilt University Graduate School Doctor of Philosophy program in Physics, and is currently ABD.
While at Morehouse, George received a Renaissance STEM Award, a Dixon Scholars of Excellence Award, and a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Mathematics. He was a member of the American Institute of Physics Society of Physics Students (SPS) and Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honor Society. He was a 4-year member of the Morehouse College Glee Club where he performed: with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, at the WNYC Greene Space, at Lincoln Center in New York City, at the opening of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. and toured US cities from San Francisco to NYC.
While at Fisk/Vanderbilt University, George was selected as a GAANN fellow, a Bridge Fellow, and a Vanderbilt University College of Arts & Science Fellow. He also performed with the Nashville Community Choir.
George interned summers at The Y‑12 National Security Complex and is currently the Core Engineering Specialist at Consolidated Nuclear Security (Y12), in support of the National Nuclear Security Administration.
